This Brainstorm Tech Tip is sent as a service to all Brainstorm Internet customers to offer easy answers to common questions and to provide information that may be beneficial to help improve our customers' Internet experience. The following is an example of a question that we are frequently asked along with the helpful answer.
Dear Brainstorm,
I had an instance lately where my dial-up connection gave me an error when I try to connect to you. The error number was 691 I think, something about 'invalid username or password'. I've since been able to get connected after I retyped my login information in, but I'm wondering what caused this and if something is wrong with my computer. What do you think?
...Bill in Ouray
Dear Bill,
This error does occur now and then. The reason this happened is because your computer basically 'forgot' your dialup password. This is not necessarily an indication that anything is wrong with your computer, it's just one of those quirky things that Windows sometimes does. The solution is simple, as you have already discovered. Just try to connect as usual, then re-enter your password in the box where it says 'click here to change saved password'. If your version of Windows is prior to XP you may see a variation of this screen, if so just delete the row of dots and re-type your password. This will resave your password and the error shouldn't come up again.
