Tech Tip: Securing Your Wireless Network

The past few years, their has been a constant increase of people installing wireless networks in their homes. This is a great new convenience for home computer users, allowing them to network to the internet from anywhere in their home. While this technology is easy to install, it is also important to make the connection as secure as possible. If the connection is not, you could allow other people to use your network without your permission, or worse gain access to your computer.

It is very important to take the following steps when securing your wireless home network:

1. Never use the default SSID that is provided by the manufacturer
2. Change the default password used by the manufacturer for administrative access
3. Do not place your wireless device close to a window
4. Disable administrative access over wireless if it is available
5. Disable remote administrave access from the Internet
6. To avoid connecting to any other non-secured networks in your neighborhood, disable connections to non-preferred networks

By following these instructions, you can ensure a safe, secure home network for your internet and computer use. If you are concerned about the security of your home network, contact our technical support staff at 877-651-6299 for further assistance.
